Kayak Fishing in Virginia

Tell Us What You Got!

Customer name: Brent Bosher
City/State: Mechanicsville, VA
Where do you fish/launch? I fish all the fresh and saltwater I can find from Richmond to Rudee Inlet. I also enjoy heading south to Nags Head and Hatteras
What kind of fish do you catch or target? I would say Stripers and Redfish are my favorite pursuits.
What kind of lures, jigs or live bait do you use? I use an awful lot of gulp baits, but it depends on presentation. Many time Mirrolures or other lures are more effective.
What kind of kayak do you have? I have a Tarpon 120 (sand color) and a Magic 14.5 (orange).
Any tips?: My friends call me gadget because I tinker a lot. For kayak fishing, less is more and simple is better. Trying to carry too many things ends up being cumbersome and that can be dangerous in a kayak. Also, unless you are very agile or have a very, very stable boat, rotating your torso to fish something out of your crate can be tricky.
Photos: The two pics are from a float trip up a place we call the Dragon Run. The Dragon is a beautiful paddle through a Cypress swamp. It is tributary of the Rappahannock River. The Rappahannock is a tidal river that covers every marine ecosystem we have. It is rocky in Northern VA, supporting small mouth bass and similar species. There are Cypress swamps like you see in the pics. There is a portion of the river that is brackish where the salt and fresh water ecosystems collide, and it is saltwater where it dumps into the Chesapeake Bay. Reference the excitment in the pic!
Thanks for sending the pics Brent!!
