Great product after do-it-yourself improvements
Annette B Gates (Richmond, VA) 7/18/2012 8:18 AM
I ordered the white version for getting accurate photos of any state citation length bass I'm able to catch. Like the other customer, the first thing I did was use a black Sharpie pen to color all of the raised lines, so the length could be seen very precisely in a photo. This worked pretty well, but I made some goofs, and it would have been great if the hawg trough came with the lines already black. Next, after catching a fish in my kayak, I placed it on the trough and held it on with some small, lightweight bungies, which worked great as long as the trough was lying flat. But in order to get a good photo, I needed to tilt the trough towards me, at which point the bass slid partially out of the trough onto my lap! After pondering this weakness for awhile, I bought a length of white plastic lath from Home Depot and epoxy-glued it to the bottom edge of the trough, so there's not a 1" piece on the bottom. Now when I turn the trough up to take the picture, the bass stays put! This would be a nice built-in feature also. At any rate, I had fun tricking up my trough, and now I never fish without it. Very nice product.

Better Than the Roll Up Measuring Devices.
Robert Wiebel (Melbourne, FL) 7/3/2011 7:48 AM
I got tired of using those roll up, flexible measuring devices. I got the Hawg trough last year and it works great and it is easy to use and cleans up real well. I can lash it to the side of my wilderness systems kayak for easy access.

Awesome ruler
Thomas Mattauch (Richmond, VA) 6/29/2011 9:44 PM
One thing that is terribly difficult is to hold a fish on a ruler, while trying to photograph it all while balancing on your yak. The design of the Hawg trough makes it simple. The butt end of the trough makes it easy to zero out the fish. The contoured ruler cradles the fish to make it lay more natural and the numbers are clearly marked for easy photo documentation. My only complaint is that it is not designed to float. I simplified that by tying a float to the trough but it would be nice if it floated. Other than that, it a a great ruler for documenting your CPR fish.

Excellent measuring tool
Rob Choi (Richmond, VA) 6/29/2011 9:23 PM
I am an avid kayak angler (maybe an understatement) and use this product ALL THE TIME. I'm on a few different online tournaments and this is the measuring device I use for them. It's accurate, easy to use, light weight, and easy to store (bungied next to my crate). The only thing is, don't lay it down on the gunnel across your yak with a heavy fish on top. A buddy of mine had a near 30" striper that flopped and snapped the hawg trough. I always have my legs (thighs) underneath it. I've had a hawg trough for over two years with well over 200 ruler worth fish measured and haven't had a problem yet. Definitely worth the money for me.
